Montana County Seat History
For many years, the Woodland Wanderers have been hosting AVA sanctioned walking events around the US. Several years ago we decided to walk in as many counties as we could. We have completed all the counties in Wyoming, Arizona, Utah, and Nevada (Oct 2025).
To facilitate the others that are involved in this quest, we decided to sanction events in county seats so everyone could enjoy the states. So far I have sanctioned the county seats in Arizona, Utah, and Nevada (as Saguaro Sun Striders, AVA0913). Now, in 2026, all 56 county seats in Montana will be available for completion. County Seat Challenges
Arizona was the first state we sanctioned the entire state at once. The reward was a lapel pin. There were six events already sanctioned by the other clubs in Arizona, so we actually added nine to that total for 15 events.
Arizona, USA
$4.00 per event
We sanctioned 28 of 29 county seats in Utah. Each event except for St George is over 3,500 feet. Gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter. These events will be sanctioned through 2026.
Utah, USA
$4.00 per event
There are 16 counties in Nevada. Both Las Vegas and Reno already have events, so we sanctioned 14 events. All the events are over 3,500 feet above sea level. You will need to sign up for our 14 events online. See the sanction.
